.ею is the Cyrillic script country code top level domain for the European Union. Sponsored and managed by EURid vzw, the same nonprofit that operates .eu, this domain was introduced to give EU institutions, businesses and individuals a native script option. Registration follows the same eligibility rules as .eu: you must be a resident or organization based in a European Union member state. The domain aims to serve the millions of Russian and Bulgarian speakers in the EU as well as other Cyrillic writing communities. Until Cyrillic domain names became available, all EU web addresses had to use the Latin alphabet. This TLD bridges that gap, making the internet more inclusive for European citizens who rely on Cyrillic every day.
