What HostDir is, and why we built it this way.

Web infrastructure moves fast. Networks rearrange peering, registrars rotate ownership, data centers open and close, BGP routes shift inside minutes. Keeping track of it while doing your day job is not a small ask. We built HostDir to be the reference desk for the people who run the modern web.

The site you are reading is an editorial publication first. We run a news desk, we write long-form pillar guides on the protocols and services that hold the internet together, and we maintain a working directory of the hosting providers, data centers, networks and domain extensions you might actually need. Free tools, no paywall, no signup. The hosting marketplace is one section of the operation, not the entire site.
