Cloudways Launches Managed Node.js Hosting to Bridge Serverless and VPS Gaps
Cloudways introduces managed Node.js hosting, combining automated scaling with predictable pricing to replace serverless and VPS compromises for production apps.
Cloudways has launched a managed Node.js hosting service, the company announced on its blog. The platform targets developers who have faced trade-offs between serverless cold starts, unpredictable PaaS bills, and the operational burden of raw VPS setups.
The new offering includes automated scaling, fixed monthly pricing, and a control panel that abstracts infrastructure management. Cloudways claims it eliminates the need to tune Nginx or configure load balancers manually, a common pain point for Node.js teams moving from development to production.
What the service replaces
Node.js hosting has historically required a compromise. Serverless platforms like AWS Lambda introduce cold start latency and variable costs that spike with traffic. Managed PaaS tools often lack production-grade features such as custom domain support or persistent storage. Raw VPS gives full control but forces teams to handle security patches, scaling, and monitoring themselves.
Cloudways managed Node.js hosting sits between these extremes. It supports popular frameworks including Express, NestJS, and Next.js, and integrates with cloud providers such as DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS, and Google Cloud. The platform also includes one-click deployment from Git repositories and built-in SSL certificate management.
- Automated horizontal scaling based on CPU and memory thresholds
- Fixed monthly pricing with no per-request or per-GB charges
- Preconfigured Nginx and PM2 process manager for production readiness
- 24/7 support team with Node.js-specific expertise
- Integration with Cloudflare Enterprise CDN for performance
Market context and competition
The launch comes as Node.js adoption continues to grow among backend teams building real-time applications, APIs, and microservices. A separate analysis from Hostinger this month ranked eight Node.js hosting platforms, noting that most still require manual configuration for production workloads. Cloudways aims to capture that segment by offering a fully managed experience.
The service competes with platforms like Heroku, which shut down its free tier in 2022, and Render, which offers managed Node.js but with less cloud provider flexibility. Cloudways differentiates by letting users choose their underlying cloud infrastructure while maintaining a consistent management layer.
Cloudways is offering a 25 percent discount for the first three months on new accounts. The company also runs an agency partner program that provides white-label billing and reporting tools for resellers. Early access to the Node.js hosting is available now through the Cloudways dashboard.
