.spiegel domain extension

.spiegel was a generic top-level domain intended for use by SPIEGEL-Verlag Rudolf Augstein GmbH and Co. KG, the German publisher of Der Spiegel magazine. The domain was delegated in July 2014 but was later revoked in December 2018. The IANA record shows the domain is no longer present in the root zone, making it effectively defunct. The domain was restricted to the publisher and related entities, as it was a brand TLD. While the TLD never reached widespread use, its short life reflects a common outcome for some brand gTLDs launched during the 2012 ICANN expansion.
