Meta Signs 1.6GW Capacity Deal with Data Center Developer Crusoe Across Two Sites

Meta has signed contracts with data center developer Crusoe to secure 1.6GW of capacity across two campuses in Texas and Missouri, further expanding its AI infrastructure footprint.

Meta has signed a pair of agreements with data center developer Crusoe that will provide the company with roughly 1.6 gigawatts of compute capacity. The contracts cover Crusoe's planned campuses in Childress, Texas, and Warrenton, Missouri, according to a Bloomberg report confirmed by Data Center Dynamics.

The deal is part of a broader push by Meta to secure massive amounts of infrastructure for its AI workloads. The company in early 2025 created a dedicated division called Meta Compute, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg said was planning to build tens of gigawatts this decade and hundreds of gigawatts or more over time.

Crusoe's Growing Pipeline

Crusoe disclosed earlier this month that its contracted AI infrastructure capacity had reached 4.9 gigawatts, spanning data center projects and Crusoe Cloud, its AI cloud platform. The company's total development pipeline exceeds 40 gigawatts.

  • The Childress campus is located on land where Lancium, Crusoe's partner on the Abilene site, has a project with a 1 gigawatt interconnect fully approved by ERCOT.
  • The Warrenton campus is planned for a 340 acre parcel at 22151 NW Service Road, with two 805,000 square foot data center buildings and a 40,000 square foot administration building.
  • Crusoe recently began construction on a 900 megawatt campus in Abilene for Microsoft, after building a 1.2 gigawatt campus there for Oracle that was leased to OpenAI.
  • Meta was previously reported to be in talks for the capacity that Microsoft ultimately secured in Abilene.
  • The value of the 1.6 gigawatt agreement has not been disclosed.

Implications for Meta's Cloud Ambitions

Meta has been aggressively signing capacity agreements with cloud and neocloud providers. The company has a $27 billion cloud agreement with Nebius, a $21 billion deal with CoreWeave, and a multi-billion dollar agreement with AWS to use the cloud's Graviton5 AI chips.

Zuckerberg recently revealed that Meta is looking at the possibility of launching its own cloud computing offering. The company's strategy appears to combine building its own data centers with leasing capacity from developers like Crusoe. With tens of gigawatts planned for this decade and hundreds of gigawatts over time, these contracts represent early pieces in a much larger infrastructure puzzle.
