AWS Brings I7i Storage Optimized Instances to Paris Region
AWS has launched Amazon EC2 I7i instances in the Europe (Paris) region, delivering up to 23% better compute performance and 50% lower storage latency for I/O intensive workloads.
AWS has made its high performance storage optimized Amazon EC2 I7i instances available in the Europe (Paris) region as of June 12, 2026. The new instances target I/O intensive and latency sensitive workloads that require high random IOPS and real time data access.
Powered by 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors with an all core turbo frequency of 3.2 GHz, the I7i instances deliver up to 23% better compute performance and more than 10% better price performance compared to the previous generation I4i instances, according to AWS.
Storage and Networking Specifications
The I7i instances use 3rd generation AWS Nitro SSDs, offering up to 45TB of NVMe storage. AWS claims up to 50% better real time storage performance, up to 50% lower storage I/O latency, and up to 60% lower storage I/O latency variability versus I4i instances. The instances also support a torn write prevention feature for block sizes up to 16KB, which helps eliminate database performance bottlenecks.
- Eleven sizes available: nine virtual sizes up to 48xlarge and two bare metal sizes
- Up to 100 Gbps of network bandwidth
- Up to 60 Gbps of Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) bandwidth
- Designed for workloads such as databases, data analytics, and caching
- Ideal for applications requiring high random IOPS with low latency
Regional Expansion and Customer Impact
The Paris region launch extends the reach of I7i instances, which were previously available in other AWS regions. This expansion allows European customers to deploy storage intensive workloads closer to their user base, reducing latency for applications hosted in or serving the European market. The improved price performance ratio may also lower total cost of ownership for organizations running large scale databases or analytics platforms.
AWS continues to invest in its European infrastructure, with the Paris region being one of several in the continent. The availability of I7i instances in Paris gives customers more options for data residency and compliance requirements while accessing the latest compute and storage technology.
Customers can get started by provisioning I7i instances through the AWS Management Console, CLI, or SDKs. AWS recommends reviewing the I7i instances page for detailed specifications and pricing.
