AMD Zen 6 Prep Work Appears in Linux Kernel as Ryzen 7 5800X3D Returns for 10th Anniversary
AMD's Zen 6 architecture appears in Linux 7.2 kernel patches with new HFI ranking tables and PMC support, while the company re-releases the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a 10th anniversary edition for AM4 platforms.
AMD's next-generation Zen 6 processor architecture has surfaced in Linux kernel patches merged for the in-development Linux 7.2 kernel, according to code published June 26, 2026. The patches include support for version three of the AMD Hardware Feedback Interface ranking tables and a new power management controller driver for Family 1Ah Model 80H SoCs, both tied to upcoming Zen 6 CPUs.
The Linux 7.2 x86 platform driver changes, authored by Phoronix, show AMD preparing for dynamic ranking capabilities in Zen 6 through the updated HFI driver. The AMD PMC driver also adds a workaround for Lenovo laptops to delay suspend and avoid keyboard and lid switch issues after suspend-to-idle.
Zen 6 Linux Prep and Intel Nova Lake Support
Alongside AMD's Zen 6 groundwork, the Linux 7.2 kernel includes Intel's Nova Lake support in the Intel PMC driver. The patch set also brings driver improvements for ASUS, Lenovo, and HP laptops, including ASUS ROG Strix G16 2025 and HP Omen 16-ap0xxx support. The ASUS WMI driver now supports the ASUS Keystone NFC-like dongle.
- AMD HFI driver adds version three ranking tables for dynamic rankings on Zen 6.
- AMD PMC driver supports Family 1Ah Model 80H SoCs, presumed for Zen 6.
- Intel PMC driver lands Nova Lake support.
- ASUS Armoury driver adds support for ROG Zephyrus G14 2025 and TUF Gaming F16.
- Lenovo laptops gain CPU and GPU tunable attributes plus WMI battery charge limiting.
Ryzen 7 5800X3D Returns as 10th Anniversary Edition
Separately, AMD has re-released the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a 10th anniversary edition, now in stock at B&H Photo at MSRP. Tom's Hardware reports the chip is the fastest gaming CPU available for DDR4 systems and breathes new life into the AM4 platform. The re-release follows scalping at twice MSRP after the initial launch.
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D, originally launched in 2022, uses 3D V-Cache technology to stack additional L3 cache on the chip, boosting gaming performance. The 10th anniversary edition offers AM4 users a high-end upgrade path without switching to AM5 or DDR5. Tom's Hardware compared the chip against Intel's Core i7-14700K across gaming, rendering, encoding, and efficiency benchmarks, finding it competitive on DDR4 platforms.
AMD's dual moves signal a strategy to support both its legacy AM4 ecosystem and prepare for the next architecture. Zen 6 is expected to bring significant IPC and efficiency gains, while the 5800X3D re-release extends the life of AM4 for budget-conscious gamers. The Linux kernel patches suggest Zen 6 hardware is already in testing, with a launch likely in late 2026 or early 2027.
