About Aleph
Aleph is an open-source platform designed for investigative journalists and researchers to manage vast amounts of data. It ingests documents, spreadsheets, databases, and more, then indexes them for full-text search and cross-referencing. The tool helps uncover connections between entities like people, companies, and locations across disparate sources.
Built on Elasticsearch and PostgreSQL, Aleph supports data from over 30 different formats including PDFs, emails, and JSON files. It offers APIs for programmatic access, integrates with data scraping tools like Scrapy, and provides a web interface for collaborative analysis. The platform runs on Linux and can be deployed via Docker or manually.
Developed by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), Aleph is free and open-source under the AGPL license. It is used by major newsrooms worldwide for investigating leaks like the Panama Papers and for tracking illicit finance networks.
