RFC 7240, “Prefer Header for HTTP”, is a Proposed Standard document published in June 2014 by J. Snell. It has since been updated by RFC 8144. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This specification defines an HTTP header field that can be used by a client to request that certain behaviors be employed by a server while processing a request.
What “Proposed Standard” means
An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
