RFC 2251, “Lightweight Directory Access Protocol”, is a Proposed Standard document published in December 1997 by M. Wahl, T. Howes, S. Kille. It has since been updated by RFC 3377, RFC 3771. It has been obsoleted by RFC 4510, RFC 4511, RFC 4512, RFC 4513 — refer to the newer document for the authoritative version. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
The protocol described in this document is designed to provide access to directories supporting the X.500 models, while not incurring the resource requirements of the X.500 Directory Access Protocol (DAP). [STANDARDS-TRACK]
