RFC 2223, “Instructions to RFC Authors”, is an Informational document published in October 1997 by J. Postel, J. Reynolds. It obsoletes RFC 825, RFC 1111, RFC 1543. It has since been updated by RFC 5741, RFC 6949. It has been obsoleted by RFC 7322 — refer to the newer document for the authoritative version. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.

This Request for Comments (RFC) provides information about the preparation of RFCs, and certain policies relating to the publication of RFCs. This memo provides information for the Internet community. This memo does not specify an Internet standard of any kind.
