The OSPF NSSA Option
RFC 1587, “The OSPF NSSA Option”, is a Proposed Standard document published in March 1994 by R. Coltun, V. Fuller. It has been obsoleted by RFC 3101 — refer to the newer document for the authoritative version. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This document describes a new optional type of OSPF area, somewhat humorously referred to as a "not-so-stubby" area (or NSSA). NSSAs are similar to the existing OSPF stub area configuration option but have the additional capability of importing AS external routes in a limited fashion. [STANDARDS-TRACK]
What “Proposed Standard” means
An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
