Overview
RFC 1009, “Requirements for Internet gateways”, is a Historic document published in June 1987 by R.T. Braden, J. Postel. It obsoletes RFC 985. It has been obsoleted by RFC 1812 — refer to the newer document for the authoritative version. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This RFC summarizes the requirements for gateways to be used between networks supporting the Internet protocols. This document is a formal statement of the requirements to be met by gateways used in the Internet system. As such, it is an official specification for the Internet community.

A specification that has been superseded or is otherwise no longer recommended for use.
