Brilliant for Next.js, frustrating for everything else
If you are building a Next.js application, Vercel is probably the best place to deploy it. The integration is seamless. Push to main, preview deploys on PRs, instant rollbacks. The developer experience is genuinely wonderful.
The edge network is fast. Image optimization works well. Analytics give you useful performance data.
Here is where it gets complicated. Vercel is heavily optimized for their own framework. If you want to deploy a plain React SPA, or a Vite app, or anything that is not Next.js, the experience is noticeably worse. You lose most of the smart features that make the platform special.
Pricing also gets confusing once you leave the free tier. The Pro plan is $20/user/month, which adds up quickly for teams. Bandwidth, function invocations, and build minutes all have limits that can bite you.
I also had a billing issue once and it took 9 days to get a response from support. For a platform targeting professional teams, that is not great.
Great product with a narrow focus. Know what you are getting into.
