About Linode (Akamai)

Linode, now part of Akamai Connected Cloud, is one of the pioneering cloud computing companies. Founded in 2003 by Christopher Aker, Linode was providing virtual private servers long before "cloud" became a marketing buzzword.

Their product suite includes shared and dedicated CPU Linodes, high-memory instances, GPU compute, managed Kubernetes (LKE), NodeBalancers, Block and Object Storage, managed databases, and a comprehensive API and CLI. Linode is renowned for its developer-friendly approach, transparent pricing, and exceptional 24/7 human support.

Since its acquisition by Akamai in 2022, Linode has expanded to core compute regions worldwide. The combination of Akamai's global edge network with Linode's cloud platform creates a uniquely powerful infrastructure offering.

Reliable cloud with genuinely helpful support

Linode (now Akamai Cloud) has been my production environment for three years. Running a mix of Dedicated CPU and Shared instances for a SaaS backend.

What sets Linode apart is the support. Real engineers respond to tickets, usually within an hour. They've helped me troubleshoot kernel panics, network routing issues, and even offered architecture advice. This level of support is rare in the cloud space.

The Sydney data center gives me great latency for Australian users. LKE (managed Kubernetes) has matured nicely too.

The Akamai acquisition has me slightly worried about the indie spirit changing, but so far the product and support quality haven't degraded. Pricing is competitive though not the cheapest anymore.
