.tl domain extension

.tl is the country code top level domain for Timor Leste, also known as East Timor. It is managed by the Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANC), the national communications authority based in Dili. The domain is open for general registration with no strict local presence requirement, though it serves as the primary namespace for entities connected to the country. Registrations are handled through accredited registrars listed on nic.tl. The technical backend is supported by CoCCA Registry Services in New Zealand. The domain was delegated in March 2005 after Timor Leste gained independence, replacing the provisional .tp ccTLD that was used during the UN administration period. This transition marked the country's full sovereignty in the digital space.

Timor Leste originally used the .tp top level domain assigned by IANA to the UN Transitional Administration. Following independence, the .tl domain was delegated on March 23, 2005, as documented in the IANA report from August 2005. The .tp domain has since been phased out in favor of .tl.
