statoil (.statoil)

.statoil was a generic top-level domain created for Statoil ASA, the Norwegian energy company. It was meant to be a branded TLD for corporate use. The domain was never actually deployed in the Internet's root zone, meaning no websites or email services ever operated under .statoil. The Norwegian firm requested the domain in 2015, and ICANN delegated it that June. However, the company later changed its name to Equinor and no longer required the TLD. ICANN revoked the delegation in October 2018. The record was last updated that same month. Today .statoil does not exist in the root zone and cannot be used for domain registrations.

Statoil ASA applied for .statoil during ICANN's new gTLD program. The domain was delegated on June 16, 2015, but before it could go live in the DNS, the company rebranded. The revocation was processed on October 3, 2018, making it a short lived TLD that never saw active use.
