Corsica gained the .corsica TLD after a community campaign driven by the local government. The official application was submitted by the Collectivité Territoriale de Corse, and ICANN delegated the zone on May 12, 2015. Prior to delegation, Corsica was only represented by the .fr country code. The TLD was seen as a way to promote the island's culture and economy online.
