Google launched a dedicated Android app for Google Finance on June 25, 2026, bringing AI-powered research, portfolio management, and real-time market data to mobile. The app follows a beta period that began in August 2025 and marks the return of a standalone Finance app after Google removed the original in 2015.
The app includes a "Key Moments" feature that uses Gemini AI to explain why a stock moved, alongside live financial news feeds and a watchlist. Portfolios can be created by uploading screenshots, PDFs, or CSV files, and the system consolidates holdings into a single dashboard with performance data and asset allocation insights.
Portfolio management and AI research tools
Google Finance now lets users ask conversational questions about their portfolios, such as "what sectors are currently underrepresented in my portfolio?" or "how does my fixed income allocation impact my long-term growth potential?" The AI research tool also supports custom briefings. Users can request a daily pre-market briefing analyzing overnight moves across major cryptocurrencies, and receive notifications via the Google app on Android and iOS.
- Real-time market data with AI-powered explanations for price movements.
- Portfolio dashboard showing performance, asset allocation, and insights.
- Custom briefings delivered via Google app notifications.
- Floating toolbar with "Ask" tool for AI queries.
- Material 3 Expressive design language throughout the interface.
Return to mobile after decade-long absence
The original Google Finance Android app was removed from the Play Store in 2015, leaving users with only the web version for nearly 11 years. The new app restores mobile access to watchlists and real-time data, while adding AI features that were not available in the original. Google says an iOS version will arrive later this year. Over the coming months, the company plans to add live earnings calls to both the app and the web platform.
The launch signals Google's renewed investment in personal finance tools, competing with apps like Yahoo Finance and Robinhood. By integrating Gemini AI directly into the research workflow, Google aims to differentiate its offering with natural language queries and automated briefings. The portfolio upload feature also lowers the barrier for users who want to track multiple accounts in one place.
