Anthropic launches Claude Tag, a persistent AI teammate that learns and works autonomously inside Slack
Anthropic on Tuesday launched Claude Tag, a persistent AI agent embedded in Slack that learns organizational context, monitors channels, and completes tasks autonomously. Available in beta for Enterprise and Team customers.
Anthropic on Tuesday launched Claude Tag, a new product that embeds its most advanced AI model directly inside Slack as a persistent, shared teammate. Available today in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers, the product replaces Anthropic's existing Claude in Slack app.
With Claude Tag, any team member can delegate work by simply typing @Claude. The agent reads the room, joins threads, remembers context, and moves tasks forward autonomously. VentureBeat reported that this represents Anthropic's most aggressive move yet to colonize the enterprise collaboration layer.
How Claude Tag changes Slack collaboration
Unlike a typical chatbot, Claude Tag is always on. It monitors channels, learns from ongoing conversations, and builds institutional knowledge over time. It can be assigned tasks that span multiple messages and users, and it retains context across sessions.
- Claude Tag is available in beta starting June 23, 2026 for Claude Enterprise and Team customers.
- It replaces the older Claude in Slack app, which offered more limited, turn-based interactions.
- The agent can be invoked in any channel or direct message by typing @Claude.
- Anthropic designed Claude Tag to capture organizational context and enterprise workflows in real time, according to TechCrunch.
- Anthropic has not disclosed a general availability date or pricing for the beta.
Strategic play for enterprise data
Beyond productivity, Claude Tag is a strategic data play. By embedding itself in Slack, the AI gains access to the decisions, assignments, and institutional knowledge that accumulate in real time. TechCrunch noted that the feature is designed to capture organizational context, making Claude smarter for each customer over time.
This approach mirrors moves by other AI vendors. Microsoft has integrated Copilot into Teams and OpenAI has offered ChatGPT plugins for collaboration tools. But Anthropic is betting that a persistent, always-listening agent will prove more valuable than a query-based assistant. The beta will test whether enterprises are comfortable with an AI that effectively watches every channel it joins.
What comes next depends on adoption. If Claude Tag proves useful, Anthropic could expand it to other collaboration platforms. For now, businesses using Slack and already paying for Claude Enterprise or Team can request access to the beta and begin evaluating whether an AI teammate is right for their workflows.
