AI Security Funding Surges as Straiker Raises $64M, OpenAI Debuts GPT-5.6 Sol, and NVIDIA Jetson Reaches Lunar Orbit
Straiker secures $64M for enterprise AI agent security, OpenAI releases GPT-5.6 Sol for cybersecurity at US government request, and Firefly Aerospace runs NVIDIA Jetson in lunar orbit for the first time.
This week, three unrelated events underscored AI's rapid expansion into security and frontier computing. Straiker, a startup securing enterprise AI agents, raised a $64 million Series A. OpenAI, at the request of the US government, began previewing its GPT-5.6 Sol model focused on cybersecurity. And Firefly Aerospace operated an NVIDIA Jetson platform in lunar orbit for the first time.
Straiker's Series A brings its total funding to $85 million, CEO Ankur Shah told Axios exclusively. The company's platform discovers and monitors AI agents across an organization, detecting anomalies and blocking malicious actions before they cause damage.
Straiker Leads Enterprise AI Agent Security Push
As enterprises deploy more autonomous AI agents, the attack surface expands. Straiker's technology scans for unauthorized agents, enforces policy, and logs all agent activity. The round was led by growth equity investors; the startup declined to name the lead investor but said existing backers also participated.
The funding wave reflects a broader trend: Gartner predicts that by 2028, 40% of enterprises will have deployed AI agents, up from less than 5% today. Security for these agents has become a priority for CISOs.
- Straiker was founded in 2023 by former cybersecurity executives from Palo Alto Networks and CrowdStrike.
- The platform integrates with major cloud providers including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Customers include two Fortune 100 financial institutions and one large healthcare provider.
OpenAI GPT-5.6 Sol Targets Cybersecurity at Government Request
OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol model is specifically designed for cybersecurity tasks such as vulnerability analysis, threat hunting, and secure code generation. The preview is restricted to a vetted group of government agencies and approved contractors, according to Infosecurity Magazine. OpenAI stated the model was fine-tuned on classified and open-source security data, with guardrails to prevent misuse.
The US government's request signals growing interest in sovereign AI capabilities. The model's name, Sol, references the sun, alluding to its role in illuminating network blind spots.
NVIDIA Jetson Runs on Lunar Orbit
Firefly Aerospace, in partnership with NVIDIA, successfully operated the Jetson edge AI platform aboard its Blue Ghost lunar lander while in orbit around the moon. The system processed sensor data and performed autonomous navigation tests without relying on Earth-based communication. NVIDIA said this marks the first time a Jetson device has operated in deep space.
Together, these events show AI security attracting serious capital, governments demanding tailored models, and computing intelligence pushing beyond Earth. Expect more investment in agent security, tighter government-AI collaborations, and growing deployment of edge AI in space.
