About VMware vSphere
VMware vSphere is a server virtualization platform that turns physical hardware into clusters of virtual machines (VMs). It includes the ESXi hypervisor and the vCenter Server management tool. With vSphere, you can consolidate workloads, provision VMs in minutes, and move running VMs between hosts with zero downtime using vMotion. High availability features restart VMs on healthy hosts if a physical server fails. Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) automatically balances load across a cluster. vSphere integrates with VMware NSX for software-defined networking and with vSAN for hyper-converged storage. It supports live migration, snapshots, cloning, and resource reservations. vSphere is widely used in enterprise data centers and provides APIs for automation with tools like Ansible and PowerCLI. The platform runs on certified hardware and supports Windows, Linux, and other guest OSes. Broadcom (formerly VMware) sells vSphere under subscription licensing, with different editions for essentials, standard, enterprise, and enterprise plus.
