About Veeam Backup

Veeam Backup is a commercial backup and disaster recovery platform originally built for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, now extended to cover AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Nutanix AHV, and physical Linux/Windows servers. It uses image-level backups with built-in compression and deduplication, and supports instant VM recovery, file-level restore, and granular application-item recovery for Exchange, SQL Server, Oracle, and Active Directory. The software offers continuous data protection (CDP) for low recovery point objectives, and integrates with object storage for long-term archival via S3-compatible targets. Veeam also includes ransomware detection through YARA-based scanning and immutable backup repositories using hardened Linux repositories. The product is licensed per workload or per instance, with a free edition for small environments. Veeam was founded in 2006 in Columbus, Ohio, and was acquired by Insight Partners in 2020. It is widely used by enterprises for hybrid cloud backup, and also offers a SaaS backup product for Microsoft 365.
