About remark42

Remark42 is a self-hosted commenting system designed for website owners who want full control over their comment data without relying on third-party services like Disqus or Facebook Comments. It loads comments asynchronously, supports social login via Google, GitHub, Twitter, and other providers, and stores everything in a single Go binary with an embedded SQLite or PostgreSQL backend. The system includes built-in spam filtering, voting, and moderation tools that let you manage discussions directly from a simple admin interface.

You can install Remark42 via Docker, a single binary, or Kubernetes, and it works with any static site generator like Hugo, Jekyll, or Gatsby. It offers features like comment editing, markdown support, image uploads, and email notifications for replies. The project is open source under the MIT license and was created by Umputun, a developer focused on privacy-first tools. There is no cloud version or paid tier everything runs on your own server.
