Pydio

Pydio (formerly AjaXplorer) gives you a self-hosted file sharing and sync platform you can run on your own infrastructure. It works as a private cloud replacement for services like Dropbox or Google Drive, with a focus on data ownership and security. You get file sharing, versioning, and synchronization across devices, plus backup features through automated snapshot and replication tools.

The software runs on Linux servers and uses a Go-based backend called Cells for better performance and scalability. It supports integration with LDAP, SAML, OAuth, and existing storage backends like S3, GCS, and local filesystems. Pydio includes a web-based file manager, desktop sync clients for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and mobile apps for iOS and Android. The platform also provides granular access controls, audit logs, and encryption at rest and in transit.

Pydio is dual-licensed as AGPLv3 open source with a paid enterprise edition for advanced backup policies, SLA support, and clustering. It is maintained by the French company Abstrium and is adopted by organizations needing sovereign cloud storage, including universities and healthcare providers. For backup use, the enterprise tier adds scheduled backup workflows and hot failover replication.
