About Papermerge

Papermerge is a self-hosted document management system built for organizing, archiving, and searching documents. It automatically extracts text from scanned PDFs and images using OCR, then indexes everything so you can find files by content, tags, or metadata. The system also supports document versioning and folder-based organization.

It runs on Linux and uses PostgreSQL as its database backend. Papermerge integrates with common file storage options and supports multi-user access with role based permissions. The OCR engine works with dozens of languages, and the web UI lets you view, annotate, and split or merge documents directly in the browser.

The software is open source under the Apache 2.0 license, making it a good fit for individuals or small teams who want to keep document data on their own infrastructure. The project is actively maintained with regular releases on GitHub.
