About Outline Server

Outline Server is a tool from Jigsaw, a unit within Google, that lets you run your own VPN-like proxy. It uses Shadowsocks or WireGuard protocols to create encrypted tunnels, making it harder for third parties to block or monitor your traffic. The server software runs on Linux and can be deployed via a simple management console or command line.

The server supports multiple access keys, traffic metrics, and automatic updates. It integrates with the Outline Client apps for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. The management interface runs as a web app, allowing you to add or remove users and view connection data. It uses a standard Linux installation with Docker for easy setup.

Outline Server is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license. It is aimed at journalists, activists, and anyone needing reliable circumvention tools. Jigsaw maintains the project actively, with regular security updates and a growing community of contributors.
