OpenMediaVault

A Debian-based NAS operating system with a web management interface for home and small office storage.

About OpenMediaVault

OpenMediaVault is a network attached storage (NAS) solution built on Debian Linux. It gives you a web-based control panel to manage drives, shared folders, users, and services without touching the command line. The software handles RAID, LVM, disk quotas, and file system checks through a clean dashboard.

It supports SMB/CIFS, NFS, FTP, RSync, and iSCSI out of the box. You can extend it with plugins for Docker, Plex, MiniDLNA, and more. The underlying system uses standard Debian packages, so it stays stable and secure. There is no built-in app store, but the plugin system adds functionality without bloating the core.

This tool suits home users, small businesses, or hobbyists who want a dedicated NAS with a familiar control-panel approach. It is open source under GPLv3 and completely free. The project was started by Volker Theile and remains community-driven with regular point releases based on Debian stable.
