About Opengist

Opengist is a self-hosted pastebin and code snippet service that stores everything in Git repositories. It mirrors the functionality of GitHub Gists but runs on your own infrastructure. You can create public, private, or unlisted snippets, edit them, and view version history through native Git commits. The web UI is clean and fast, built with Go and SQLite or PostgreSQL.

It supports Markdown rendering with syntax highlighting for over 200 languages, and snippets can be cloned or pushed to via standard Git commands. Opengist integrates with OAuth providers like GitHub, GitLab, and Google for login, and it exposes a REST API for programmatic access. The project is written in Go using the Echo framework, with a single binary deployment.

Opengist is ideal for developers or teams who want full control over their code snippets without relying on third-party services. It is open source under the AGPLv3 license, free to self-host, and actively maintained by its creator, Thomas Miceli. The project has gained steady adoption in the self-hosting community since its initial release.
