About MySQL

MySQL has been around since 1995 and remains one of the most widely deployed database engines on the planet. It stores data in tables with rows and columns, using structured query language to insert, update, delete, and retrieve information. The server handles everything from small embedded applications to massive web services running thousands of queries per second. It supports transactions with ACID compliance, stored procedures, triggers, views, and full-text indexing. Replication features let you set up master-slave or group replication for high availability and read scaling. MySQL ships with multiple storage engines, with InnoDB being the default for transactional workloads. You can connect to it from virtually any programming language, and it runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, and many other platforms. Oracle Corporation acquired MySQL through its purchase of Sun Microsystems and continues to lead development. The software is available under the GPLv2 license, with commercial licenses offered for proprietary embedding.
