About Modoboa

Modoboa gives you a browser-based dashboard to run your own mail server without touching config files or diving into Postfix and Dovecot internals. It bundles the core stack you need: a webmail client, an administration panel, and optional modules for features like autoconfig, SPF/DKIM/DMARC management, mailing lists, and calendar sync. You install it on a Linux server and it handles user authentication, mailbox quotas, alias management, and even greylisting. The admin interface is clean and lets you control multiple domains from one place, which makes it a solid pick for small hosting companies or anyone who wants self-hosted email without the pain. Modoboa is written in Python and uses SQLite or MariaDB/MySQL for storage. The project started around 2012 and has an active community. It is distributed under the ISC license, a permissive open-source license similar to MIT. For those who want a quick start, they also provide a ready-to-use installer script that sets up the full environment on Debian or Ubuntu.
