About JupyterLab

JupyterLab is the next-generation user interface for Project Jupyter. It offers a flexible, modular environment where you can arrange multiple notebooks, text editors, terminals, and output views in a single window with drag and drop. Think of it as a web-based IDE that speaks the language of data science and scientific computing.

It supports over 40 programming languages through kernels including Python, R, Julia, and Scala. You get a file browser, a rich text editor with syntax highlighting, a debugger, and built-in support for Git via extensions. JupyterLab runs in any modern browser and works with local or remote servers. The extension system lets you add themes, language servers, and custom widgets.

Project Jupyter spun out of the IPython project and is now a community-driven open standard. JupyterLab is free and open source under the BSD license. It is widely used in academia, research labs, and industry for reproducible analysis and teaching. The project is stewarded by the nonprofit NumFOCUS foundation.
