About Gotenberg

Gotenberg gives you a clean, stateless HTTP API to convert HTML, Markdown, and Microsoft Office documents (docx, xlsx, pptx) into PDFs or images. It runs inside Docker and uses Chromium's headless rendering engine for HTML conversions and LibreOffice for Office formats. The API is simple: send a file or a URL, get back a PDF.

It supports advanced features like custom page margins, headers and footers, print CSS media, and webhook callbacks for async conversions. You can also merge multiple PDFs into one, add metadata, or convert a whole directory of files. It integrates easily with any HTTP client, works on Linux and macOS, and can be scaled horizontally behind a load balancer.

Gotenberg is open source under the MIT license, making it free to use in any project. It was created by Julien Neuhart and the community maintains it. It is especially useful for developers building billing automation or document generation pipelines who need a reliable, containerized conversion service without a heavy SaaS dependency.
