About Gerrit

Gerrit is a web-based code review tool that integrates tightly with Git. It lets developers push changes for review before they merge into the main branch. Every commit gets a unique review ID, and the system shows side-by-side diffs, inline comments, and a voting mechanism for approvals. It also supports verified and code-review labels, so teams can enforce mandatory checks before any code lands.

Gerrit runs on Linux using Java and a SQL database (commonly PostgreSQL or H2). It can be self-hosted on any server with a Java runtime and works with standard Git clients. The platform supports SSH and HTTPS authentication, and it can integrate with LDAP, OpenID, OAuth, and SAML for single sign-on. Gerrit also has a rich REST API for automation and plugins for CI systems like Jenkins and Zuul.

The project is open source under the Apache License 2.0, originally developed at Google for Android development. It remains actively maintained by the Gerrit community and is used by thousands of organizations, including Qualcomm, ARM, and Eclipse Foundation. It is ideal for teams that want a structured, democratic review workflow without leaving the Git ecosystem.
