About Fossil
Fossil supports automatic sync via HTTP/HTTPS or SSH, branching and tagging, and has a built-in CGI server that works without Apache. It runs on Linux, macOS, Windows, and any POSIX system. The repository format uses SQLite for storage, so you can query history with SQL directly. Access control and authentication are built in, not bolted on as afterthoughts.
Fossil is ideal for small teams and individuals who want a low-friction alternative to Git hosted on a single server. The SQLite project itself uses Fossil for development. It is released under a BSD license, free for any use, and includes no third-party dependencies beyond a C compiler.
