About Forgejo
Forgejo started as a community-driven fork of Gitea in late 2022, after concerns over the project's governance shifted toward a corporate model. It aims to stay independent, open, and controlled by its users. You can run it on your own server with minimal resources a Raspberry Pi handles it fine. It supports Git over SSH and HTTPS, includes a built-in CI/CD system called Forgejo Actions (compatible with GitHub Actions syntax), and offers project boards, wiki pages, pull request reviews, and release management. The interface is clean and fast, especially compared to heavier forges like GitLab. Forgejo also federates using ActivityPub, meaning you can follow repositories and users across different instances. It runs on Linux, macOS, Windows, and Docker. The project is managed by the Forgejo community under an MIT license, and there is no paid tier or enterprise edition. If you want a no-nonsense Git host that you fully control, this is it.
