About Eonvelope

Eonvelope is a backup tool built around the concept of an Eon envelope. It takes files from a source folder, wraps them in encrypted containers, and stores them in a destination folder. The encryption happens locally before anything is written to the backup location, so your data never travels or rests in plain form. It is designed for people who want simple, repeatable backups without relying on cloud services.

The tool runs as a command line utility on Linux. It uses standard encryption libraries to create sealed envelopes that can only be opened with the correct passphrase. You can configure source and destination paths, set a schedule using cron or systemd timers, and let it run. It does not require a proprietary server or internet connection. Everything stays inside folders you control.

Eonvelope is open source under the GPL license, developed by a solo creator on GitLab. It is best suited for personal or small-scale use where you need verifiable encryption on your own storage. There is no official Windows or macOS build, but the source can be compiled on those systems with the right dependencies.
