About Druid

Druid is a column-oriented, distributed data store built for high-performance slice-and-dice analytics on event streams and historical logs. It ingests data from Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, or static files, then lets you run sub-second queries on billions of rows using SQL or its native query language.

The system was originally created at Metamarkets (later acquired by Imply) and became an Apache Software Foundation project in 2018. It integrates with popular visualization tools like Apache Superset, Grafana, and Tableau, and supports tiered storage for hot and cold data segments.

Teams managing observability pipelines at scale often use Druid behind Grafana for real-time dashboarding on telemetry data. It is open source under the Apache License 2.0, with optional commercial support available through Imply.
