About Docspell
It runs on Linux using Docker or native installs, with a PostgreSQL or H2 database backend. The stack includes a Scala-based server and an Elm frontend. You can set up custom tags, correspondence lists, and full-text search via Apache Lucene. It also supports OCR for scanned images through Tesseract, making text searchable even in handwritten notes.
Docspell is fully self-hosted under the GPLv3 license, with no cloud dependency or paid tiers. It targets privacy-conscious users, small businesses, and anyone who wants to keep their document data off third-party servers. The project is maintained by a single developer under the name eikek on GitHub.
