About Databunker

Databunker is a database service built to safeguard personally identifiable information (PII). It acts as a separate vault where you store sensitive user data like names, email addresses, phone numbers, and government IDs. The tool encrypts each record and returns a token to your application, so your primary database never holds raw PII. It runs as a standalone daemon and exposes a RESTful API for all operations.

It supports user signup, login, password hashing, and session management out of the box. You can link records to a user profile and perform GDPR-style compliance actions like data export and deletion. Databunker runs on Linux and can be deployed as a Docker container. The project is written in Go and uses SQLite or MySQL for its internal store. It was created by SecurityBunker and is released under the AGPLv3 license.

This tool is best suited for developers and small teams who want to isolate PII without running a full identity management suite. The AGPL license means modifications must be shared if you use it as a network service. The latest stable release is v1.1.1 from early 2023.
