Cloudflare is a global content delivery network and web security platform that sits between visitors and the origin server, providing caching, DDoS protection, SSL/TLS, DNS, and performance optimization. At its core, Cloudflare operates as a reverse proxy. DNS is pointed to Cloudflare's network, which then handles all incoming traffic. Static assets are cached at edge locations worldwide, reducing origin server load and improving load times for visitors regardless of their geographic location. Dynamic content is routed through Cloudflare's optimized network backbone.

Cloudflare integrates with cPanel through the official Cloudflare cPanel plugin, allowing hosting customers to enable Cloudflare directly from their control panel. Many hosting providers include Cloudflare integration as a value-added feature.

The platform also offers Workers (serverless computing at the edge), Pages (static site hosting), R2 (S3-compatible object storage), and D1 (edge SQL database). These developer tools extend Cloudflare well beyond traditional CDN functionality.
