Checkmk started as a fork of Nagios and has grown into a full-featured monitoring platform used by thousands of organizations. It combines agent-based and agentless monitoring, auto-discovery of hosts and services, and a modern web interface with customizable dashboards. The system supports a wide range of checks out of the box, including SNMP, HTTP, databases, and custom scripts via Nagios plugins. The Raw edition is free and open source under GPLv2, while the Enterprise edition adds features like distributed monitoring, reporting, and SLA dashboards.
