About Astro

Astro is a static site builder and web framework that prioritizes shipping zero JavaScript by default. It lets you use components from React, Vue, Svelte, Solid, and other frameworks within a single project, then strips out unused client-side code at build time. Pages are rendered to static HTML by default, and you can opt in to interactivity with a simple directive like client:load or client:idle. This approach makes Astro especially fast for content-heavy sites like blogs, documentation, marketing pages, and e-commerce storefronts. The framework supports Markdown and MDX out of the box, includes built-in image optimization, and offers a file-based routing system similar to Next.js. Astro also provides partial hydration, meaning only the interactive components on a page send JavaScript to the browser. The project is maintained by the Astro core team and backed by Vercel, Netlify, and other sponsors. Its ecosystem includes official integrations for Tailwind CSS, Sitemap, RSS feed generation, and server-side rendering adapters for Node, Deno, and Cloudflare Workers. Version 4.x introduced the Content Collections API and a stable view transitions feature.
