Apaxy

Apaxy is a set of CSS and JavaScript files that override Apache's default mod_autoindex output. It turns the plain list of files and folders into something visually organized, with icons for file types, folder previews, and a responsive layout. You drop the assets into your web root and Apache does the rest.

The project uses Apache's built-in directory indexing capabilities and adds styling via HeaderName and ReadmeName directives. It works on any Apache server with mod_autoindex enabled. The theme is built with CSS3 and a bit of jQuery for the breadcrumb navigation. There are no databases, no backend scripts, and no configuration changes beyond a couple of lines in your .htaccess or Apache config file.

Apaxy is ideal for anyone running a personal file server, a LAN sharing setup, or a static download repository. It's completely free, open source under the MIT license, and maintained by Jeremy O'Paura (oupala). The project has been around since 2014 and remains a lightweight, zero-dependency option for sprucing up directory listings.
