About Akkoma
The software focuses on performance and low resource usage. It supports common ActivityPub features like statuses, reactions, polls, and media attachments, plus Akkoma-specific additions such as bookmarks, chat via MUCs, and a customizable frontend called Soapbox. Akkoma runs on Linux servers and uses PostgreSQL for storage. The backend is written in Elixir using the Phoenix web framework.
Akkoma is open source under the AGPLv3 license. It is best suited for experienced sysadmins or privacy-conscious users who want a lightweight alternative to Mastodon. The project maintains documentation on its website and a community chat for support. There is no official hosted version; you must self-host it.
