aaPanel

aaPanel is a free, open-source web hosting control panel originating from the popular Chinese panel BT-Panel (Baota). It provides a clean, modern web interface for managing websites, databases, FTP, cron jobs, Docker containers, and firewall rules on Linux servers.

Installation takes about two minutes with a single command. The panel automatically installs and configures a complete web hosting stack: Nginx or Apache (selectable), MySQL or MariaDB, PHP (multiple versions simultaneously), phpMyAdmin, PureFTPd, and a file manager. One-click deployment of additional software includes Redis, Memcached, Node.js, Python, Java, and MongoDB.

The interface is notably clean and intuitive compared to other free panels. Website management covers domains, SSL certificates (Let's Encrypt with auto-renewal), PHP version selection per site, reverse proxy configuration, and basic WAF rules. The file manager includes a built-in code editor with syntax highlighting. The monitoring dashboard shows real-time CPU, memory, disk, and network usage.

aaPanel includes a software store concept where server applications are installed and managed through the panel. Docker management is built in, allowing administrators to pull images, run containers, and manage volumes through the GUI. This makes it useful for developers who want a visual interface for their Docker workflow.

For hosting providers, aaPanel works well for managing VPS servers and small hosting operations. It does not have the reseller account hierarchy or the ecosystem of cPanel, but for straightforward server management it covers the essentials at zero cost. The panel is particularly popular in Asian markets and is gaining traction in Western hosting communities as a lightweight free alternative.

Security considerations: always change the default panel port after installation, enable the built-in firewall rules, and restrict panel access by IP if possible. Like any web-based management tool, the panel itself is a potential attack surface.
