JSON Web Algorithms
RFC 7518, “JSON Web Algorithms”, is a Proposed Standard document published in May 2015 by M. Jones. It has since been updated by RFC 9864. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This specification registers cryptographic algorithms and identifiers to be used with the JSON Web Signature (JWS), JSON Web Encryption (JWE), and JSON Web Key (JWK) specifications. It defines several IANA registries for these identifiers.
What “Proposed Standard” means
An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
