Tunnel Extensible Authentication Protocol Version 1
RFC 7170, “Tunnel Extensible Authentication Protocol Version 1”, is a Proposed Standard document published in May 2014 by H. Zhou, N. Cam-Winget, J. Salowey, S. Hanna. It has since been updated by RFC 9427. It has been obsoleted by RFC 9930 — refer to the newer document for the authoritative version. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This document defines the Tunnel Extensible Authentication Protocol (TEAP) version 1. TEAP is a tunnel-based EAP method that enables secure communication between a peer and a server by using the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol to establish a mutually authenticated tunnel. Within the tunnel, TLV objects are used to convey authentication-related data between the EAP peer and the EAP server.

An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
