Message Header Field for Indicating Message Authentication Status
RFC 7001, “Message Header Field for Indicating Message Authentication Status”, is a Proposed Standard document published in September 2013 by M. Kucherawy. It obsoletes RFC 5451, RFC 6577. It has since been updated by RFC 7410. It has been obsoleted by RFC 7601 — refer to the newer document for the authoritative version. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This document specifies a message header field called Authentication- Results for use with electronic mail messages to indicate the results of message authentication efforts. Any receiver-side software, such as mail filters or Mail User Agents (MUAs), can use this header field to relay that information in a convenient and meaningful way to users or to make sorting and filtering decisions.
What “Proposed Standard” means
An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
