RFC 5652, “Cryptographic Message Syntax”, is an Internet Standard document published in September 2009 by R. Housley. It obsoletes RFC 3852. It has since been updated by RFC 8933, RFC 9629. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This document describes the Cryptographic Message Syntax (CMS). This syntax is used to digitally sign, digest, authenticate, or encrypt arbitrary message content. [STANDARDS-TRACK]
